Keep Dogs Calm During Fireworks Season

Four Tips to Help Dogs Relax

Dogs are more sensitive to noises, lights and smells and while most people love the boom and bang of the fireworks, many dogs do not. So while the country heads outside to celebrates the 4th of July with fireworks, many dogs find themselves inside terrified by the loud sounds, explosive lights, and booming bangers. Here are some easy ways to help them stay calm. Walk them during the day to avoid times when fireworks are set off. Close windows and curtains to help muffle the sound as well as put on some music or tv. And lastly, create a quiet space where your dog can relax and give them a treat toy to help reduce their anxiety.

West Paw has plenty of treat toy options designed to keep dogs busy, mentally stimulated, and occupied while you spend your night celebrating the US of A.

Tip 1:

Use a Qwizl® to slow your dog down and make tasty treats last longer. This durable and challenging pet toy extends the life of expensive dog treats, like bully sticks and dental chews. Their mind will be on food instead of fireworks.

Tip 2:

Tux® is a great stress-reliever for tough chewers.  If your dog can destroy toys easily, this mighty treat toy was specifically built for heavy chewers.  Fill it with your dog's favorite treats, including West Paw's NEW healthy dog treats, freeze it and give it to your dog before you leave the house.

Tip 3:

If your dog is terrified of loud noises. Occupy him for longer with a customizable Toppl®.  Before the first firework lights up the sky, introduce them to a Topple filled with their favorite FROZEN treat. Frozen treats last longer so they’ll be able to keep their minds busy longer. Additionally, Toppl is available in two sizes that connect to change up the challenge. Simply connect the small and large toys together to keep them busy longer.

Tip 4:

Stuff Tizzi® compartment full of dog's favorite treats and twist the handles to keep dogs busy working to get the treats out so you can work. After they’ve figured out how to dig out their dinner, toss it in the air for a fun game of fetch. The aerodynamic shape makes it fly further than typical treat toys and is terrific for tug-o-war.

All West Paw treat toys are made from West Paw’s proprietary Zogoflex® material. All toys are non-toxic and FDA compliant (meaning they are safe to eat off of). All Zogoflex toys are BPA-free, Phthalate-free, latex-free and guaranteed. Designed and made in Montana, dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
